A Plea to President Akufo-Addo: Save Our Forests and Water Bodies from Destruction

 

Dear President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,

We, the youth of Ghana, are raising our voices in deep concern over the devastating impact that illegal mining, or galamsey, is having on our forest reserves and water bodies. These illegal activities are destroying our environment, polluting our rivers, and poisoning the very drinking water that millions of Ghanaians depend on for survival.

Mr. President, our rivers are turning toxic, filled with harmful chemicals, and our forests, once thriving with life, are being stripped bare. The consequences of this destruction will be felt for generations to come. We are not only losing our natural resources but also jeopardizing the health and future of our country.

We believe in your leadership and commitment to building a prosperous Ghana. But prosperity cannot come at the cost of the very resources that sustain us. We cannot sit idly by as our environment is being destroyed. We are pleading with you to take immediate and decisive action to stop all illegal mining activities that are ravaging our forests and contaminating our water sources.

We urge you to:

1. Halt all illegal mining in forest reserves and near water bodies immediately.
2. Enforce environmental protection laws and ensure that those responsible for these illegal activities are held accountable, regardless of their status or influence.
3. Restore the damaged lands and water bodies, so future generations can inherit a safe and healthy environment.

The youth of Ghana stand united in this cause, and we are calling on you, Mr. President, to protect our land, our water, and our future. The time for action is now. Our nation cannot afford to lose its natural heritage to greed and corruption.

We trust in your leadership and hope you will act swiftly to save our forests and water bodies before it is too late.
